CONGRATULATIONS TO THE
2025 PULASKI PRESTIGIOUS YOUNG POETS FINALISTS

Second Place Winner
The People Around Who Shape You
by Tori Tanner, 4th Grade

In a black and white world,
Lurks a person who is colorful
Unlike the ones with plain gray clothing
And a dark face,
Although you see that they were always the ones Around who shape you,
But you find and see that they were once like you,
But they got shaped into a mold that didn't quite fit,
But soon grew into it.
Once their closet was bright and colorful,
And the next day it was not.
Once they had a smile,
Once their eyes were colorful,
Then they were not.
You look at them and find,
You'll soon be in that mold that isn't a right fit.
And grow into it, but will you change your fate?
You sit there still, years after.
With grey clothes and a dark face,
You make your daughter a mold
And look at her colorful clothes and realize,
You became something you once despised.

Third Place Winner
The Outfield by Cole Mitchell
4th Grade

Blinding lights
Yelling everywhere
Can’t hear my coach
My teammates are so far away
I feel like I am by myself
All alone in the outfield
But not for long
A ball flying throughout the sky
I have a friend now
I catch the ball
But I have to throw it back
Again all alone in the outfield

First Place Winner
The Storm by Jack Falcon
5th Grade

A huge storm; raging for days
Making people change their ways.
The power of the rain;
Completely insane.
The loud thunder;
Shaking what is under.
The lightning;
Is so frightening.
Shaking everything around:
Making a huge sound.
Changing the way the sun would be;
If only we could see.
Life is getting boring;
My energy is storing.
No sleeping at night;
Making life a hard fight.
I wish the storm would end;
Because the sky is my friend.
